35 – The Founder of Pharmacist Women Shares How Hard Work and Networking Created More Opportunities

Chara Reid Black Women Pharmacists Podcast

I have the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Chara Reid. Chara’s currently the Director of Pharmacy at The US Oncology Network, however, this episode was recorded during her time as a Manager of Pharmacy Services for DuPage Medical Group prior to her transition to becoming the Director in her current role.

She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2004 from Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy, but her pharmacy journey actually began in 1993 as a pharmacy technician at Walgreens and eventually becoming a pharmacy manager with them until 2013.

On this episode, Chara shares her experience trying to break into the Corporate world. Although her attempts at Corporate fell short, she eventually landed a role working for an independent chain, Doc’s Drugs at their specialty pharmacy hub.

In December of 2015, Dr. Reid joined Dupage Medical Group where she grew the specialty pharmacy from supporting 3 to 8 departments. With all of her time and hard work, Chara was promoted to a pharmacy manager and again promoted to Manager of Pharmacy Services which included oversight of 6 oncology infusion centers and an Ambulatory Surgery Center.

In 2018, she founded a group called Pharmacist Women, a group created to build and cultivate relationships for women in pharmacy for dialogue and education. With this group, Chara sponsors monthly networking dinner programs in the Chicago land area.
