40 – How This Pharmacist Duo is Hands On in the Community with Their Non-Profit Organization

Drs. Tymes 2 Black Women Pharmacists Podcast

On today’s episode, I’m bringing you twin Pharmacist sisters for the very first time!

Drs. Jennifer Macklin-Brown & Jessica Macklin-Patibandla are first generation college graduates from Cleveland, Ohio. They go by the moniker “Drs. Tymes 2” because everything in their personal and professional lives has been duplicated two times!

Both sisters earned their Bachelor of science in molecular and cellular biology from Kent State University. They earned their doctor of pharmacy degrees from Chicago State University College of Pharmacy where Dr. Jennifer Macklin-Brown served as President, and Dr. Jessica Macklin-Patibandla served as the Vice president.

Dr. Jenn specializes in hep C, HIV and chronic diseases while Dr. Jess specializes in fertility, compounding and chronic diseases.

After 15 years of working in various pharmacy settings across the country, these sisters took a leap of faith and made the pivot to pursue their passion of sharing their knowledge not only behind the counter, but also in front of the counter by starting the community-based 501 (c)(3) nonprofit called Hands-On Health. Their mission is to educate and strengthen under-resourced communities to live at their highest potential through health and education.

The mission is carried out through two programs: The Wealthy Heart program which provides adults with complimentary screenings, education, counseling, and a health home to those in need, and the Health Science Lab, a program aimed to increase middle and high school students interests in healthcare fields where minorities are underrepresented.

They happen to also be the first alumni to offer an annual scholarship to two P4 students that think outside the box when pursuing future careers in pharmacy.

They enjoy mentoring students interested in pursuing pharmacy and love working in independent pharmacy settings.
